It was fantastic to help organise the Melbourne launch of “John Howard – From the Pavilion – Shaping the Ascent to Power” at Gadens with my friend Andrew Blyth Advocacy who edited the book.
Before he was ‘Lazarus with a triple bypass’, John Howard, dabbled as a columnist for The Australian after Andrew Peacock knifed him for the Liberal Party leadership.
The man himself gave over 100 of Gadens’ guests the inside story on how the wilderness years shaped the policies he adopted as Prime Minister from 1996 to 2007.
The articles are a time capsule of national and international events from high interest rates, the breakup of Eastern Europe, apartheid, China’s unrest and the rise of Japan.
The book sold out with John Howard personally signing every copy. Music to the ears of author, and former Howard Government staffer, Andrew Blyth.
